Cairn’s Australian owned and locally operated reef operator, Sunlover Reef Cruises is once again scaling up its operation to contribute to the region’s tourism product offerings and better meet the needs of its global customers looking for a world-class experience.
From 4th December, Sunlover will be introducing a second pontoon at Arlington Reef on the outer Great Barrier Reef, the only half-day pontoon experience from Cairns. The new tour to Arlington Reef is a sign of the company’s continued commitment to delivering much needed capacity on the reef to help grow the destination.
“Sunlover Reef Cruises multi-million dollar investment in its operation and new tourism experience at Arlington Reef has already created employment for 24 people in Cairns just in the last week. Positions that range from sales and marketing, engineers, marine biologists, dive instructors and cruise attendants.” Said General Manager Eugene Kotze.
The introduction of a half day outer reef tour to Arlington Reef is Sunlover’s second major announcement this year, their first being the launch in May a brand new, locally built pontoon at Moore Reef. This new state of the art facility has already seen a resurgence in locals travelling to the reef during school holidays with families enjoying the giant theme- park water slide. Moore Reef will continue as Sunlover’s full day, full service destination.
Operating from its current base at the Reef Fleet Terminal, Sunlover’s catamaran vessels will service the two pontoons with Half Day Arlington Reef taking guests directly to the outer reef location, while Full day Moore Reef tour will continue to travel via Fitzroy Island – supporting the islands resort, turtle rehabilitation centre and water sports activities.
Sunlover’s Half Day Arlington tour will be the region’s only half day tour to an outer reef pontoon and allow guests 3 hours “reef time” before returning them to Cairns at 1.30pm with time to enjoy Cairns many other attractions, and touring options.
Half Day Arlington Reef Tour will feature many of Sunlover’s signatory activities, including snorkelling over one of the largest reef systems in the region, underwater observatory, marine life tank presentations, glass bottom boat tours, kids enclosed swimming area, fish feeding and more.
“2017 continues to be an exciting year for our company with the launch of our second activity pontoon at Arlington Reef now only days away. Our reservations team are ready to accept bookings for the product, and welcome guests from all over the world for an amazing experience which offers the outer reef in a half day tour.”
“Our company continues to express our confidence in the future of tourism in the Cairns region by investing locally in our infrastructure and our people. It has been many years since Sunlover operated tours to this part of the Great Barrier Reef, and we are proud to introduce visitors to this unique and impressive reef system. “
“Sunlover Reef Cruises strategy is to directly influence the growth of regional tourism by providing world-class experiences for visitors to a World Heritage Area”. General Manager of Sunlover Reef Cruises, Eugene Kotze said.
The launch of Arlington Reef pontoon is part of the company’s delivery of a further $2 million upgrade to its Arlington Reef infrastructure. This brings the total investment in 2017 into the local economy to $6 million.
