World Heritage, World Class

The twin World Heritage icons, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest are natural delegate boosters for any conference or event. Cairns & Great Barrier Reef is the only place where two World Heritage areas meet.

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park

Sheer beauty, as well as astonishing biodiversity, helped earn the reef its World Heritage status. The ecosystem contains the largest collection of coral reefs (some 2500) on the planet. It’s also home to 400 types of coral, 900-plus islands, 1500 species of fish and 4000 types of mollusc. Six of the world’s seven species of sea turtles and 40 per cent of the anemone species also call the reef home. Great indeed.

The Delegate Experience
The Great Barrier Reef makes the region the perfect place to host your next conference, meeting or event, with this natural wonder providing so many exciting, relaxing and unforgettable experiences for delegates.

Departing daily on scheduled services or private charters from Cairns and Port Douglas, there are a variety of tours available offering diving, snorkelling, sailing, cruising, scenic heli-tours, semi-submersibles, glass bottom boats, underwater scooters, and island-hopping, all showcasing one of the world’s greatest natural treasures.

Visiting the Reef, Helps the Reef

Contrary to popular belief, coming to see the Great Barrier Reef is one of the single best ways your delegates can help in its conservation. Every reef visitor tpays an Environmental Management Charge which contributes to management of the Marine Park and ongoing research.

Master Reef Guides

World-leading coral reef guides and interpreters share the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park through stories and memorable experiences. They provide up-to-date information on the Reef, and explain what you can do to make a difference. The program is the first of its kind for the Reef.

Beer that helps the Great Barrier Reef

Cairns & Great Barrier Reef is the natural place to meet… and eat and drink! The good news is, Cairns & Great Barrier Reef has been quenching thirsts since our first bar opened in 1877 and we’ve been perfecting it since. Find out how the drinks at your gala dinner can support the Great Barrier Reef.

Wet Tropics Rainforest

The Wet Tropics is the only place on the planet where you’ll find the world’s smallest and tallest cycads living alongside the world’s most diverse assemblage of ancient and relict flowering plants. A haven for Australia’s greatest number of animal species in one place, 80 of which can’t be found anywhere else on the planet. It’s a living natural wonder, allowed to survive solely upon the miracle of circumstances. At 300 million plus years in the making, it’s still evolving; and your delegates can see, experience and become immersed in the wonder of the rainforests of the wet tropics.

The Delegate Experience
Recognised as the oldest tropical rainforest on the planet and the largest in Australia, the Wet Tropics Rainforest offers endless experiences for any group size. Its spectacular scenery, plant diversity and unique wildlife are guaranteed to leave delegates speechless.

Just north of Port Douglas at Mossman Gorge Centre, learn about the traditions of the Kuku Yalanji tribe and immerse yourself in the ancient secrets of the rainforest. A guided Dreamtime walk, team building activities through the gorge or a dinner by the river are sure to leave delegates with an emotional connection to the land.

A gondola ride above the canopy aboard Skyrail Rainforest Cableway just north of Cairns provides an appreciation of the diversity this ecosystem offers. With stops along the way to explore the rainforest and enjoy guided boardwalk tours, delegates are exposed to the rainforest from above and below.

The Wet Tropics’ Famous Five Precincts and a Guide to Exploring Them

If you’re looking to connect with nature and discover a rainforest that’s the oldest, longest and largest in Australia, go behind the foliage with this guide to the five precincts of the Wet Tropics.

Wet Tropics Guides

The Wet Tropics Tour Guide Program was created by the Wet Tropics Management Authority, and Savannah Guides to support ongoing learning and enhance visitor experiences. Trained guides share the natural and cultural values of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area with your delegates.

Introduce Delegates to the World’s Oldest Rainforest

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is an experience through Australia’s most famous rainforest, the Wet Tropics, whose ancestry predates dinosaurs and is home to 15 of the 26 families of ancient flowering plants in the world, just to name a few accolades.

What's new?...the $28 million redeveloped Cairns Esplanade Dining Precinct is completed! 🌴🥂 The engaging layout features new contemporary awnings that offer better weather protection, an extended dining area, modified and gently curving road alignment, inviting vertical gardens and grassed mounds, and extra footpaths to improve pedestrian connectivity.

The retention of one-way traffic along the Esplanade allows for safer pedestrian movements and will also reduce unwanted noise. The design of the road and footpath also allows the precinct to be easily transformed into a pedestrian-only space for major public events. #eventherethisyear #businesseventscairns
