Fossils found in the #DaintreeRainforest earlier this year have now been formally identified as the remains of a large bird-like creature named ‘Austravis simiungula’ 🌴🤯
Nicknamed “Travis” this creature is estimated to be around 7ft tall, with a large beak, claws and a body structure similar to a tree kangaroo, still found in the tropics today! While not much is known about this whacky animal yet, scientists believe they lived off a primarily fruit-based diet, along with small insects and lizards 🦎🐛
It’s expected that these fossils will create global interest in paleo-tourism once they’re on display in the tropics! Swipe to see the fossils up close 👉 🦴
