Repurposed historical venues and stunning natural spaces with a World Heritage backdrop are among the off-site venues in ‘Cairns & Great Barrier Reef’.
Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef General Manager Tara Bennett said exciting new options for off-site events had opened just 10 minutes from Cairns city.
“The Rankine Timber Mill has been repurposed as a stunning events space close to the CBD and was used recently for the welcome function for Cannes in Cairns where 1600 people were wowed by the fairground theming complete with rides and silks performers,” she said.
“It is alongside the new Narrow Tracks Distillery which provides an opportunity for activations featuring local gin.
“Cairns boasts several historic venues that are highly regarded as events spaces including The Tanks, which were fuel storage tanks during World War II, the heritage-listed Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and Hemingway’s Brewery on the old Cairns wharves, and the Sugar Shed at a nearby cane farm.
“Further north at Port Douglas, the Sugar Wharf has been reclaimed as a stunning event space overlooking the Coral Sea.
“Purpose-built venues include Skypark by AJ Hackett, a rainforest event space for up to 330 to sit down, and the Cairns Aquarium which is ideal for large incentive groups who can walk through the reef and rainforest sections with different food stations along the way.
“These diverse venues showcase the destination’s history and stunning natural environment providing the ideal space for people to connect, feel rewarded and be inspired.
“There is also the opportunity to cross-pollinate venues and activities, for example a cultural guide from Reef Magic could give an Indigenous perspective on the aquarium during an event.
“Offsite venues elevate incentive functions to the extraordinary in the Cairns and Great Barrier Reef region where gala dinners can be held in a rainforest grotto, at a wildlife park, in repurposed heritage buildings or beachfront under the coconut trees.”
